How to Leverage AI to Find New Customers

One of the best things I love about Large Language Model (LLM) Artificial Intelligence is how we can gain access to the world’s brightest minds, industry experts and how they think. Though I’ve worked on a variety of industries from venture capital, energy, telco, fintech, FMCG, and retail I can’t possibly have a working knowledge of all industries and markets. Many times some clients who aren’t big enough to mount national consumer surveys or have access industry studies aren’t too clear on the market segments in their industries, and are even more unfamiliar with which segments are underserved. Thankfully, here’s where ChatGPT comes in handy. By following the step by step guide below, you can use ChatGPT to finding new market opportunities for your business:

Step 1: Ask ChatGPT to rank the top 10 thought leaders in your INDUSTRY and REGION. Choose the 5 most relevant.

Step 2: Ask ChatGPT to rank the top 10 CONSUMER INSIGHTING thought leaders. Choose the 5 most relevant.

Step 3: Ask Chat GPT IF these 1) industry thought leaders (from step 1) contracted these 2) consumer insighting thought leaders (from step 2) to find key market opportunities in your industry, how would they do it, what frameworks will they use?

Step 4: Ask ChatGPT If these consumer insighting thought leaders used these frameworks for this industry, what are the 10 most underserved consumer personas they will come up with? Include the following: Demographics (limit age ranges to 10 years), Psychographics, Buying Behavior, Underserved Needs, and Reason to buy a new product or from a new brand.

I usually find the output better when I have LLMs:

1) Rank instead of list choices

2) Indicate a specific region (ex. Southeast Asia)  for sourcing industry experts. Unfortunately, information from some countries are weak on LLMs.

3) List the processes/ frameworks the thought leaders will use BEFORE asking for their output, this makes sure the LLM will think like them in processing the task by applying the frameworks they’ve been documented teaching.
